Hadith isnads

Kill-instrument — a dataset that can test conjectures

isnad network datasets and tabaqāt prosopography.

Synopsis

LLM-authored synopsis Not an article

Every hadith -- a reported saying or action of the Prophet Muhammad -- travels with an isnad, a named chain of transmitters linking it back through history, and Islamic scholarship built enormous biographical dictionaries (tabaqat) profiling those transmitters individually. Modern isnad-network datasets turn these chains into a graph that can be analysed the way any citation or social network can.

Because an isnad is, structurally, just a transmission network with named nodes, it invites the same graph-theoretic questions asked of citation networks or social media. The isnad bowtie and Family chains hug the periphery both look for hub-and-periphery structure in who transmits to whom, asking whether family chains cluster differently from unrelated ones. The tarjama looks upstream asks whether a transmitter's biographical entry tends to look "upstream" toward teachers rather than forward toward students, a directional bias the network itself should reveal.

Open conjectures — noetic, untested

Falsifiable questions posed below the evidence boundary by the 1001 Conjectures project. They are leads, not evidence, and carry no weight in this page's assessment.

From the One Thousand and One Conjectures. They carry no evidential weight here; verdicts and credits live on each conjecture's own page.
